Making health care better for all Australians

Representation in research

OurDNA is a program centred on inclusivity to help genetic research and healthcare in Australia.

We believe genetic research should represent everyone. But right now, many Aussie ancestry groups are left out. OurDNA is changing that by focusing on underrepresented groups.

Our goal is to make it easier for people from underrepresented multicultural communities to take part in genetic medical research.

Why should you participate?

We’re making genetic medicine fair and easy to access for all. Learn about the benefits to joining OurDNA.

Building a database

If some ancestry groups have not taken part in research before, there might not be enough information about people’s health and the different causes of health conditions in that ancestry community.

Joining OurDNA's database helps researchers and doctors find disease-causing genes, understand genetic diversity, and improve medical treatments for people of different backgrounds.

Help your community.

By giving a blood sample, you help doctors understand genetic differences in your ancestry group. This leads to better diagnoses and treatments.

If more people from an ancestry groups take part in research, it can help researchers to understand, treat or prevent health conditions. This may mean better healthcare for that ancestry community in the future.

Be included in research

Participate in OurDNA to make sure that your ancestry group is included in genetic research. By giving a blood sample, you contribute to a DNA database that helps scientists understand health issues specific to your background.

For instance, your DNA might affect how you respond to certain medicines, so having many people from your ancestry group participate helps scientists find treatments that work for everyone, benefiting both your community and all people.
